about

“Catacombs” is the short title, the shnakname, of this song. It is a remix of a song by Brooklyn-based songwriter Jesse Lindsey. In particular, it is our version of the 254th song he has written for his website mounteverestweekly.com, a song called “Rising Star.” Jesse’s now on week 450, writing, recording, and releasing a song a week for 450 fug’n weeks. Badass!

What sort of catacombs of the soul are there in this strange, perilous, and often sad age!? There are great catacombs of loneliness; a catacomb of fear of one’s soul, one’s character, knowledge, or bravery; and a catacomb of a general sense of terror, or, at the very least, bad faith. There are likely others you could name. Jesse and Ecce Shnak’s strange song is a meandering through some of these catacombs. Should you care to walk with us, be sure to follow us back out. There are greater depths ahead—and greater peaks!

lyrics

Picture yourself standing outside.
Everyone marvel at the night sky.
Later on when you’re all alone
Once again stare into the catacomb.

It makes you want to run, run, run!
Run, run, run in the open air.
No listen you should run, run,
Run away!
Never look better lest they see your face.

Cause to the old world, everyone looks like a cannibal.
And to the new world, everyone looks like a rising star.
